Just Add Water.. Week #11: 156.5 lbs.

Back in October of 2016 I started doing an advanced daily water aerobics class, hoping it would help me lose weight, of course this was before I discovered the RS (restricted starch) diet. 

From mid October to early January 2017, I did 2 hours of advanced water aerobics and 1 mile of lap swimming, Monday – Friday, and lost a total of 7.5 lbs., but no inches!  By the end of January, out of frustration, I hung up my swimsuit and convinced myself that the reason I wasn’t losing was because my thyroid medicine (Synthroid) was too low and needed increasing.

On February 6th my doctor increased my Synthroid from 100 mcg. to 112 mcg., I felt better, but didn’t return to the pool, instead I took up long distance walking. 

On clear days I would walk anywhere from 6-11 miles.  By the end of February I had lost another 4 lbs..  In early March, due to a week-long rainy spell, I went without walking and found myself making excuses not to walk once it stopped. 

By April 1st I had gained back everything I had worked so hard to lose and was once again where I started.. 180 lbs.!  That was when I decided I needed a lifestyle change and wasn’t going to give up until I found something that worked.


As of today, I have lost 23.5 lbs. on the RS diet, only needing to lose 16.5 lbs. more to reach my goal weight of 140 lbs..  With the arrival of Summer this week, I am finding that I have to start walking by 6am in order to beat the heat.  Since I already have a full years membership at the pool, I am going to continue walking early in the morning and start doing water aerobics from 12-1pm Monday-Friday.
